After a brief standoff with Pittsburgh police Tuesday evening a woman was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
According to a police spokesman Zone 5 officers attempted to serve a mental health warrant on the unidentified woman at her home in the 100 block of Roup Avenue, shortly after 5 p.m.
The woman refused to allow police to enter the residence and started acting erratically. “The woman has a history of barricading,” the spokesman said. She continued to talk to police while standing “dangerously close to a second floor window and at times leaned out of the window.”
The SWAT team was called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. and by 6:30 p.m., police were able to safely take her into custody without any injuries.
The woman was transported to UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital by police, according to the spokesman.
