A New Jersey Sheriff’s deputy is charged with having unlawful sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl and posting a video of the incident online.
Joshua Padilla, 33, of Eatontown, NJ, was arrested Friday after authorities filed a criminal complaint charging him with unlawful contact with a minor, possession of obscene materials and other sexual performances, sexual abuse of children – manufacturing, disseminating and possessing child pornography, and related charges.
Padilla is employed as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Middlesex County, New Jersey.
Agents with the Attorney General’s Child Predator Section received a tip in December from the Pennsylvania State Police that Padilla had unlawful sexual contact with the girl in Northampton County, sometime in April or May, Padilla contacted the girl through a sexual website for adults, the complaint said.
Investigators allege in the complaint that Padilla had sex with the girl despite knowing she was under 18.
Padilla also recorded the encounter with his cell phone, and uploaded the video to the website, where it was viewed and shared by other, police said.
The complaint alleges that an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old contacted Padilla and the two shared text messages. Padilla’s text messages included explicit language about sexual topics. He also sent the agent two pictures of his genitals, and requested photos of the purported 14-year-old girl while she was in school.
“Our agents work tirelessly to investigate child sexual predators and get them off the streets of Pennsylvania,” Attorney General Shapiro said today. “We have zero tolerance in my office for child predators – wherever we find them. It is particularly upsetting and egregious when the accused predator is a member of law enforcement, sworn to protect citizens and uphold the law.”
Padilla is currently in police custody in New Jersey, awaiting extradition.
