Police have charged a 15-year-old male with homicide after a teen he shot 10 days ago died on Tuesday.
Taymar Smith, of Pittsburgh, admitted to shooting 15-year-old Chammire Smith in the head with a rifle on Nov. 18, according to a criminal complaint.
Smith told police he was in a bedroom with Chammire Smith and four others and was “messing around” with a .22 caliber rifle and shot him while he was sitting on a milk crate, police alleged in the complaint.
Smith admitted to pointing the rifle at Chammire Smith’s head and said, “the gun went off.”
Police responded to the shooting at 918 Cliff Street in North Braddock around 10 a.m. and found Smith unresponsive in an alley. A trail of blood led them to a nearby home.
Smith admitted to police that he and another person dumped Chammire Smith in the alley and then tried to clean up the blood with a sweatshirt. They then hid the blood-soaked shirt behind a speaker, the complaint said.
Smith was initially charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and a firearm violation in a complaint filed on the day of the shooting.
A preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
