Police say a 20-year-old man walked up to a police officer leaving the Munhall Police Department and said he had just shot and killed his ex-girlfriend.
Police have identified that man in a criminal complaint as Darion Abel.
Allegheny County police alleged in the filing that shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, Abel and 19-year-old Miranda Grimm-Gilarski were arguing on the phone. During the argument Abel put a loaded .9mm handgun and a magazine into his waistband and drove to the woman’s home and shot her 17 times.
After shooting her, Abel drove to the police station and told a Munhall police officer “I just shot my girlfriend 17 times,” the complaint said.
Police and paramedics found the woman lying on the floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Abel admitted the woman recently ended a yearlong relationship and he was angered about an upcoming court appearance.
Abel is charged with criminal homicide, burglary and carrying a concealed firearm without a license.
He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail after being denied bond and has a preliminary hearing on Nov. 28.
