Rochester Police have identified the man who was involved in the standoff with police on Sunday as Thomas Brantner, Jr., 41, of Rochester.

Brantner is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and resisting arrest in connection with the incident.

According to court documents, police responded to the Sheetz store on Adams Street around 9:30 a.m. after a woman alleged that Brantner had assaulted her earlier. The woman told police that she sustained injuries to her head and arms.

When police went to Brantner’s home at 517 Connecticut Ave. to speak with him, he locked the front and back doors of the home, and refused to respond to numerous attempts by police to contact him, the criminal complaint said.

During the standoff, residents in the area of Brantner’s residence were asked to stay indoors, police said.

The situation was resolved Sunday afternoon when Brantner surrendered to police.

Brantner is in the Beaver County Jail after failing to post $50,000 bond and faces a Nov. 1 preliminary hearing.
