A  McKees Rocks man will serve the next eight years in a federal prison to be followed by six years of supervised release, after admitting he sold drugs that resulted in a woman’s death.

An Indictment alleges that in Nov. 2016, Smith sold a 31-year-old woman drugs that contained the deadly opiate fentanyl. While investigating her death, Pittsburgh Police obtained a search warrant for Smith’s residence and found fentanyl, crack cocaine and heroin. Police say Smith admitted to selling the drugs that caused the woman’s death.

Court documents say that in 2009, Smith was convicted in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance and served jail time.

U.S. District Court Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Thursday.
