A 17-year-old male is in the Allegheny County Jail after being denied bail and is charged with the Aug. 1 fatal shooting at the Hays Manor housing complex in McKees Rocks that left one man dead.
Allegheny County police allege in a criminal complaint released Friday, that Donta Nicotero, of Mckees Rocks, fired two shots killing Richard Price during a physical altercation involving five males, that occurred around 8:50 p.m.
Mr. Price was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m. from two gunshot wounds.
The victim’s brother told police that he saw an individual who he knows as “Lil Ricky” fire a gun in the victim’s direction during the fight.
Police contacted Nicotero’s mother, Shayla Gary, who works in the housing complex. Ms. Gary agreed to cooperate with police and on Aug. 8 she drove Nicotero to county police headquarters. Nicotero admitted he was involved in the incident telling police, “that he was present in Hays Manor at the time of the shooting and was involved in a fight against the victim,” the complaint said.
On Aug. 20 the victim’s brother picked Nicotero out of a photo lineup and identified him as the shooter.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Aug. 31 at 10 a.m.
