Police are continuing to search for the man they say shot and killed a man and wounded a second person at the 1313 Bar in Duquesne on Aug. 13.
Police allege in a criminal complaint that Carl Jones, 27, of McKeesport, walked into the bar early Monday morning and had a brief, yet heated exchange, with Donnell Demery who was sitting at a table and speaking with a friend.
After the exchange, police say Jones left the bar and returned a short time later and shot Mr. Demery ” 5 to 6 times with a silver handgun” and then fled the bar.
A witness to the shooting told police that Jones had entered the bar with an unknown female. The witness, who was not identified in court papers picked Mr. Jones out of a photo lineup.
Mr. Demery was pronounced dead at 1:14 a.m. after being taken to a local hospital.
A second victim fled the bar before police arrived and has not yet been identified.
Less than 24 hours after the shooting emergency responders were called to the bar and extinguish a small fire.
A spokesman for the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement, “Our office has previously met with the ownership of the 1313 bar to express our concern about criminal activity in and around that bar. In light of this weekend’s fatal shooting, we have once again reached out to the ownership to schedule another meeting.”
